Economics Challenge

The Maryland’s Economics Challenge is an opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their economics knowledge in a fun, competitive environment!
Teams of up to four students compete in one of the two divisions on topics from microeconomics, macroeconomics, international  economics, and current events .
We will be holding the Maryland competition online  during the week of March 27 - April 2, 2012.
There are two levels:  Adam Smith Division – AP Economics
and David Ricardo Division – one semester Economics course

The highest scoring team in the Adam Smith Division and the David Ricardo Division will go on to do the National Semi-final (previously called regional’s) and National Final levels.  The team with the highest score from the State online competition will be submitted to compete in the Semi-Finals.  The National Semi-final will be a proctored exam taken at the state champions’ schools.  The Council on Economic Education will develop, distribute and score the test.  School principals will need to make the necessary arrangements for holding the exam, and verify the integrity of the conditions under which the test is taken.  The National Semi-final date is April 24, 2012.  All state champions will be competing against each other, taking the same test at the same time, with the top four finishers in each division invited to participate in the National Finals in New York on May 20, 2012.

If you are ready to accept the challenge, please go to www.econchallenge.org to register.  Send payment of $25 for registration to MCEE, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252.
After teachers have completed the online registration and payment is received, they will be given access codes.

During the week of March 27 – April 2, 2012, students will enter the econchallenge portal and take a 30 question online test that covers micro, macro and international economics.
