The Maryland Economics Challenge 2008 is an opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their economics knowledge in a fun, competitive environment!
How is the challenge set up?
Teams of up to four students compete in one of the two divisions on topics from microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and current events.
The Adam Smith Division
For students in a two-semester, AP, honors or IB course, a greater emphasis is placed on the theoretical aspects of economics.
The David Ricardo Division
For students in a one-semester economics, consumer economics or personal finance economics course, a greater emphasis is placed on real life economics application.
Qualifying Round Online! During the week of March 12-19, 2008, students will enter the econ challenge portal and take a 30 question online test that covers micro, macro and international economics. After the qualification round, the top five teams in each division will be invited to Towson University to compete on April 10, 2008.
What are the rounds of competition?
- Round 1– Microeconomics *
- Round 2– Macroeconomics *
- Round 3– International Economics and Current Events *
- Round 4– Quiz Bowl (top two teams in each division face-off in a fast-answer buzzer round)
*Rounds 1, 2, and 3 consist of individual 15 -question multiple choice tests
