SUMMARY:CEE: Rockonomics 101: History\, Economics\, Rock and Roll
DESCRIPTION:This presentation explores how music can serve as a powerful teaching tool for understanding U.S. economics and history between the 1880s and the 1960s. Songs of this period not only entertained but also reflected and shaped the nation’s economic and social realities. By treating music as a primary source\, educators can bring historical events and economic concepts to life in ways that resonate with students. 1. Teachers using student activities will engage them to broader historical and economic themes and strategies for classroom integration. 2. By linking music to lessons on industrialization\, migration\, labor\, war\, cultural changes and civil rights\, teachers can foster deeper engagement\, empathy\, and interdisciplinary learning. \nTeachers will be able to: \n\n\nDemonstrate how music can be used as a primary source to explore economic and historical themes. \n\n\nHighlight key genres\, artists\, and songs that connect to major moments in history and economics. \n\n\nShare classroom-ready strategies for using music to make history more relatable\, accessible\, and engaging. \n\n\nEncourage interdisciplinary thinking by linking economics\, history\, culture\, and critical analysis through music.
