CEE: Women Overcoming Adversity: Using Picture Books to Teach Economics

In this webinar teachers will:

  • Celebrate Woman’s History Month by learning about the challenges four strong women faced and overcame.
  • Consider the benefits of using children’s literature to teach in the content area.
  • Review the economic concepts of decision-making, opportunity cost, human capital, good & services, and productive resources and learn how they apply these concepts to the featured books.
  • Discover methods for teaching the featured concepts using lessons created for the elementary classroom.
  • Explore the children’s books “Helen’s Big World: The Life of Helen Keller” by Doreen Rappaport, “Wilma Unlimited: How Wilma Rudolph Became the World’s Fastest Woman” by Kathleen Krull, “The Girl Who Thought in Pictures: The Story of Dr. Temple Grandin” by Julia Finley, and “Wilma’s Way Home: The Life of Wilma Mankiller’ by Doreen Rappaport.
