What’s The Stock Market Game™?
An interactive, online simulation where students (grades 4–12) invest a virtual $100,000 in real-time stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
It’s run nationally by the SIFMA Foundation and administered in Maryland by MCEE.

How It Works
- Students form teams and make investment decisions over a set period (weeks to months).
- They track their portfolios, learning how market events impact performance.
- Teachers receive curriculum guides and lesson plans to connect the simulation to economics, math, and financial literacy standards.

Skills Students Gain
- Financial Knowledge: Understanding stocks, bonds, mutual funds, diversification, and risk.
- Critical Thinking: Making informed choices based on research and analysis.
- Collaboration: Working in teams to plan and adjust strategies.
- Decision-Making: Learning consequences of short- vs. long-term financial moves.

Impact
- Students gain real-world money management skills in a risk-free environment.
- Many report feeling more confident about saving, investing, and planning for their financial futures.
It’s one of the most popular financial literacy tools for Maryland schools.
Is There a Cost?
For Maryland public school classrooms, the Stock Market Game is completely free—our generous sponsors make that possible! Private, independent, and faith-based schools, as well as adult or community groups, may have a small fee. Just email us at mcee@towson.eduand we can detail the nominal fees for your class or group.
